10,000 -15,000 words which can consist of a novella, a long short story, several short stories or a collection of flash fiction or a mix of stories and flash.
Stories can have been published previously in anthologies or in web or print journals, but not in a stand-alone publication by the author.
Two winning manuscripts will be selected, Best International Entry and Best Irish Entry. The winning chapbooks will be published and made available internationally through Amazon. Winning authors will receive advances of 250 euro each and twenty copies of their chapbook. The finished publications will be (along with preliminary pages) between 32-45 pages in length.
Deadline for receipt of entries is October 31st 2018. Winners will be announced by January 31st. 2019. Winning chapbooks will be published by April 30th 2019.
There is a 25 euro entry fee. Entries will be accepted through Southword’s submittable portal only.
Nothing to identify the author must be included in the submitted manuscript document. All information about the contents’ previous periodical publication etc. will not be needed until the manuscript is selected for publication.
Authors are advised that the finished publications will not include illustrations. All entries will be read and judged anonymously by Southword Editions editor Patrick Cotter.
Submitted manuscripts can be in PDF, WORD or RTF format.
